Question
Does Amazon sell fake stuff? How reliable is Amazon and its sellers?
I wanna buy a watch for my mum. And the price shows up on Amazon is much cheaper than that at the shopping mall in my area. I just wondering how reliable Amazon.com is. Do they have experts to determine whether the jewelry they are selling are fake or not? And how reliable Amazon's sellers are? Are those Jewelry being sold by those sellers needed to be verified or confirmed?

This is a great question. Amazon is very reliable, however when you deal with some of their third party vendors there is some risk involved. I've used amazon and various third party sellers and have had mixed results so allow me to share with you what I've learned. Amazon has many quality control tools that they use, however they most likely do not inspect the products of their sellers. Customers however do inspect the products, and Amazon would definitely use customer input to prevent fraudulent sales from repeating. LEGAL PROTECTIONS As long as the merchant states that the jewelery is real they are legally bound by explicit warranty of merchantability. If they lied intentionally this is fraudulent, and you could technically sue to recover your funds or sue for the difference of buying a real version of the jewelry elsewhere. This is called compensatory damages. AMAZON'S VENDOR WARRANTY POLICIES Amazon knows this, and in order to avoid being on the wrong end of lawsuits they guarantee you will get what was advertised or they will send you your money back after investigating the situation. This (unfortunately) has happened to me twice. The first time a vendor gave me the wrong textbook, and as a result I was sent the right one. The problem was solved but it was by no means timely. The second time the textbook just never showed up. After a month of waiting I was credited the funds for the book. WHAT TO DO: There are a few things you can do to ensure the vendor will be reliable. 1. Check their ratings! If they've done something wrong in the past, it will show up in their ratings. 2. Be careful with new vendors. Try to avoid vendors have no reviews or have only been on amazon for a short time. You can see this information in their "Storefront". 3. Send a message to the vendor before buying. You should be able to message them and ask them details about where they got it and other things that may give you a better sense of if it is really what you are looking for. I hope this helps and answers your question! While there is always risk when you buy something, amazon is usually pretty good. Happy shopping!

Amazon sellers are not necessarily reliable, although most of them are. Do the same as you would do with an eBay seller: Check their background. How long have they been selling? How many total sales have they made? What is their feedback rating? Do they ship from the same country as you? Bottom line is, you'll have to make your own decision. If you're suspicious of this seller, DON'T BUY FROM THEM.

Sellers don't need to be verified so I'd be careful here. They don't have experts checking everything as that would cost a fortune. If something is too good to be true, it probably is.
