Question
Property bought & sold in 1900?
Hi, I'm trying to find out when an ancestor of mine bought a property (and hopefully once I've established that, how!): how would I go about finding a record of property bought and sold between 1897 and 1901 in the United Kingdom? One thing I probably should add is that the property is no longer in the family.

It is unlikely there is any specific record of ownership left. If the property is registered then any old title deeds will almost certainly have been destroyed. About 3/4 of properties are now registered, and it certainly will be if it has been sold or mortgaged since 1990, and might be even if the most recent sale was much older. Even if not registered only the most recent conveyances are needed to establish ownership of a property. So it is unlikely that any documents showing ownership that long ago will have been kept. You can look at things like census records to see if/when someone lived in a property, but I doubt you will find details of the actual property transactions themselves.

The title deeds would list all the title holders , if you own the property now look up the deeds ,if its mortgaged ask your bank for a copy
