Question
moving from rented to mortgaged - but the house is not ready yet!?
Hello, I've searched all over the internet for answer to this but have come back empty.... We are moving house but with each passing day we are no closer to exchanging contracts but we need to move out of our current rented flat in two weeks. My EA has said it is still possible to move within October provided we have 'a good week' but it is now Thursday and he wont return my phonecalls so I assume we are not having a good week! I believe the seller has already moved so it is not him holding it up, it sounds like it his solicitor being slow. I've been forced to look around at what options I have in the interim period. I have no family in the city or any friends with a spare room so I think I will need to pay for storage and a hotel (with hopes that the delay will only be a week long!) This is going to cost around £300 in total. Do you think I would be better off: - pulling out of the move and re-rent for another few months (and so losing out on so far costs - c. £1,000) - reduce my offer by £300 to compensate for losses due to hotel/storage - negotiate the compensation of £300 into the fixture and fittings price (which we have also not received yet) I really appreciate any advise from people who have been through a similar house move nightmare! Many thanks Yes unfortuantely our flat has already been let, the new tenants due to move in on the 1st November

Before you make arrangement for storage and hotel, can you talk to your current landlord about renting continuously month to month? OK, if the apartment is already rented does the landlord has another flat you can rent instead? It does not hurt to ask. All he can say is yes or no. If not, another way is if you know the seller is moved out for sure, contact him if you can rent his place week to week before your deal is closed. Tell him you don't want to let this deal "fell through" and go elsewhere with a signed lease. I hope you can get some positive feedback from the seller. Break a leg!
