Question

In Massachusetts, do I need to collect sales tax while selling things online for fundraising?

We're opening a small internet store on our web page to help raise money for a big move and relocation to start a desert homestead. Are we required to collect sales tax for things like bumperstickers and tshirts?

You are required to collect and render sales taxes on any taxable goods delivered within the Commonwealth. Goods delivered out of state (assuming you have no nexus in the state where they are delivered) are not taxable. Additionally, the Commonwealth of MA does not collect tax on clothing items with a single item price of less than $175. Therefore you won't collect sales taxes on the T-shirts. You will collect it on all non-clothing items such as bumper stickers though. Just as an aside, your business does not appear to be any sort of registered charity so all income from this venture is taxable income regardless of its purpose.

Check your local tax laws...but normally, you only need to collect state sales tax if the order originates from your State...So...if I order from Nevada...No...If I order from Mass...Yes...Do believe you would still need to file Mass State Income tax....Take Care Good Luck
