Question

Ebay, whats the point?

I recently listed Gladiator (dvd, 2 disc Special edition, only watched once) on Ebay because it recently been replaced by the Blu Ray edition. Well anyways i started auction at 99p starting bid and Ebay wouldn't allow to charge for Postage. so after 3 days on the market a got one bidder in the last 5 seconds. Sold for 99p wow! Real bargain for the buyer. But what about me the seller, i had to pay 90p for postage then on top of that Ebay fees and pay pal fees! So where was my profit for my dvd, and all the time it took me to list it in the first place. In fact it actually cost me to sell it!, Ebay, yep great for buyers, not so good for sellers in my opinion.

Yep they are stopping P+P charges on a lot of items. They are making too many demands on their sellers when the sellers pay for most of their profits! Selling on EBay is NOT a profitable venture any more

I agree, would rather give the DVD away on freecycle than line fat cats pockets at ebay It used to be so good a few years ago but now its not

You simply add the cost of postage to the original bid price, if postage and fees are going to cost £1.20 instead of staring the listing at 99p you start the listing at £2.20. Or add a note in the item decription that postage will be 90p, then as soon as the item ends send the buyer an invoice adding the 90p postage charges. You bypass ebays silly rules but don't lose out. That is how all the sellers who only sell dvds make there money.

Before you list an item calculate what you would make if it sold for the lowest price. If that profit would be too low either put it on higher or sell it elsewhere. The problem with a DVD like Gladiator is that there are going to be a lot of them around so you will never make a big profit. Sellers now include the postage in the price in the free P&P categories. Don't be tempted to invoice the buyer for additional postage as this is against the rules in the free P&P categories and you could end up being suspended.
