Question

Life insurance question?

My grandmother passed away 7 years ago in Oklahoma. Her life insurance company that held her policy is no longer and was bought out by several other companies. I have talked with Texas and Oklahoma's state insurance offices and we cannot find out who took over the company. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to collect the money. PS the policy is not lost. The company does not exist anymore. My father handled the details after her death. It has not been cashed and he asked me to handle it because he got no where with it. It's an extremely small policy only $3K, but they were farmers and we feel that it was a lot of money for them at the time and it's just the principle of the matter. We thought we could purchase something with the money for the whole family to enjoy. Thanks everyone it will be an uphill battle.

www ... This maybe a possible chance to locate. Also google unclaimed money and go to your state to see if it located there. Have you gone thu all her personal records? If a company changes name/ownership, they usually will send out letters stating of the change. Go thu her checking account and see if you can find checks she wrote. Who handled your grandmothers funeral or debts when she passed 7 years ago? Did you just find this policy from an unknown company that no longer exists and want to know if it was cashed? With this much time frame gone, this maybe an uphill battle. good luck

Google "lost life insurance policies" You must have a policy (a piece of paper w/policy number and name of Company) If you can't find out who took over company - how do you know its' defunct? No life insurance policy company can go out of business, they have to pay charter insurance, their accounts and assets must be accounted for. They could have moved to another state - Like Ark - Kansas!

You have to track down whoever is now responsible for the policy. You can email me directly with the name of the insurer, or repost the question with the exact name of the insurer as written on the policy. There are several websites you can use to look them up. You ALSO need to get the proof that she paid that last year's premium before she died - that the policy was active at the time of her death. Lastly, no one can "claim" the benefit - the only person who gets paid, is whoever was named beneficiary on the policy. If you have the hard copy of the policy, that person's name is probably listed there - but the insurance company will go by THEIR records. Here are some of the search websites: apps ... www.ambest.com www ... eapps ...
