If you are 21 years old and you don't know how much money it takes to get an apartment, then you have been very sheltered. 1. Normally when you get a place, you have to sign a lease and make a security deposit. The normal security deposit amount is the first and last months rent added together. 2. Then you have electricity to pay for. about $70 a month 3. Then you have the water bill to pay for. about $50 a month 4. Then you have to fill the apartment with furniture 5. Then if you want cable TV or internet... add another $100 a month 6. If you are a renter, most places require you to have renters insurance. I don't know how much that is each month. 7. Then you have to pay for food, drinks, cell phone, credit cards, car payment, car insurance.... I think your best bet is to strike a deal with your parents. Tell them that you wish to start paying them rent. If they ask why... tell them that it is because you are old enough now to start taking responsibilities, and that you would also like to help them out financially since they have provided for you so well. This would be cheaper than going out and buying furniture, putting down a security deposit and so on. Then... start doing whatever you want to do. If you want to party all night... go right ahead. If they try to start enforcing rules on you, then all you have to do is say that you are now a "tenant" and you have the right to enjoy your life as you see fit. If they are no longer providing for you, then you are off the hook. Either way... you are 21 years old. I was fighting in Afghanistan when I was 17 years old. Time to grow a pair and stand up for yourself.

You would need a full time job with lots of roommates. While I understand how miserable this can be, you will never save enough money unless you get an additional job. You have to factor in electricity, heating, plumbing as this can be separate from the rent cost. New furniture? Eh, take your bed with you. You will have to downsize a lot. Do you cook? Then pots and pans are useless, instant noodles my friend, instant noodles. Be warn of drop dead roommates, roommates that steal and skip out on you leaving you to pay for their share of the rent as well.

Most landlords require you to pay a deposit and 1 months rent. If you can cover that and cover ur monthly rent you can move in. However you will need money for food and electricity (since your rent covers gas and water) If you dont need a couch or a bed get blow up furniture (air mattress) or bean bag chairs.

If you can find a roommate go for it. I think you should just save your money, I know parents are strict but they dont mean harm, untill you have a full time employment that can support your living style i would go with the free room and board given by your rents. But if you decide to move out this is the best time to get an apartment infact most landlords are giving the first month rent free. look around your newspapers and search online classifieds and u should find something that meets your income level. good luck good luck

Will your parents' still take care of the car payments and insurance when you move out? You need to ask so that you can be prepared. Dishes and even furniture can be purchased rather cheaply at thrift stores and yardsales. Having a roommate would help with costs, but you'd need to make sure that it's someone you trust to pay their share... or it won't help at all. Expect to pay at least first month's rent and a deposit (usually equal to first month's rent). Sometime's the landlord will require first month, last month, and a deposit. Items you might have to pay: Electric Gas Cable/Internet Trash Water/Sewer Renter's Insurance Rent Food Household supplies (laundry soap, cleaning supplies, dishes, furniture, small appliances, etc) Personal items (medication, shampoo, toothpaste, etc) Car insurance Car payment Gas for vehicle Cell Phone Credit card debt Call around to different apartment complexes that you'd be interested in and ask if there are any openings. Find out the price of the unit and what utilities you'd be responsible for to get a better idea of if you can afford to move out. Many landlords do a credit check, and if you have bad credit, then you may need a cosigner.
