Question
Paying bills in Basic Training?
Quick question. A friend of mine told me that he was able to put all of his bills on "hold" while he was in boot camp for the Marines. Well I have a car payment, insurance, cell phone, and credit card payments that I'm currently paying. Well, trying to pay. Anyway...I plan on canceling my cell phone, and turning the tags over on my car so I don't have to pay my insurance since I won't be able to drive it anyway. My question is...can you put car payments and credit card payments on hold while you're at Basic?

If you have a loan on that car, you are required to carry full coverage insurance. Do not cancel the insurance. The lender will be forced to add insurance coverage to your loan. It will be expensive and only cover the lender. Have you considered using online billpay thru your bank? Most banks offer it free of charge. You can set up auto pay for recurring payments like your car payment. You can also schedule payment of your other bills online. It's very quick and easy. Yet you keep total control of your finances and can change or cancel a payment up to a couple days before the due date. There is no way you can put your bills on hold while you are in boot camp. If all else fails, have a parent or some trusted relative handle your bills for you while you are away.

There is no such thing as putting bills on hold. You are going to have to have any bills automatically debited from your account or have someone else take care of them. Also don't cancel the insurance on your car, you are supposed to have insurance on it at all times regardless if it's being driven or not. Just get storage insurance on it.
