It's the first of many. We're about to see the end of Royal Mail. It's a shame because it will mean that people outside of the larger cities will have to collect their mail from the courier depot or pay to have it delivered. Unfortunately, postal workers do a manual workers job and want a professional wage for doing it.

I don't like to see anyone out of a job because of bad management, now theres a recession that's even less spending money for the local community. I don't like people using the strike ballot as a noose on the consumer because the consumer suffers. Theres a lot of people who unions won't touch, people like myself who have no rights for better wages. I've never striked because if i did i would get sacked its that simple. If anybody thinks they have a hard job and wants to strike they should try working on a building site as a labourer in winter time. Treated like crap and expected to do the work of 3 men and paid flat rate minimum wage usually.

I don't know all the ins and outs of the dispute but I do not believe that so many workers come out on strike just for the fun of it. It takes 2 sides to make a dispute and I know from the postmen in my area that there has been a lot of dirty goings on by management. I live in a rural area and have always had a great relationship with the local postie and Royal Mail van deliveries. The management changed our delivery times and I was getting my mail at 3pm every day. This was because of cut backs in the number of staff and new employees who didn't know the area. Many of the older members of staff had left because of bad management practises. Anytime items have been delivered to me by courier companies they have gone missing, been left at empty houses or just gone AWOL. This has never happened with Royal Mail.
