Question
If i currently have health insurance, is it possible to buy a separate prescription drug plan?
Because my insurance is fine but getting certain medications requires my doctor call the insurance company for "pre-authorization", and he isn't willing to do that. So is it possible to get a plan and pay a certain amount each month just to cover my prescriptions so getting them filled won't be a big hassle and won't be outrageously expensive? I don't need an actual health insurance policy just a prescription plan to supplement my current one. I'm 21 by the way, no medicare, no medicaid or anything like that. It's for adderrall, I guess since there's alot of people abusing them it needs extra precautions but the only reason it needs pre-authorized is because I'm over 18. My doctor is more than willing to sign off on the pre-authorization, it's just that he wants the insurance company to fax the form over and the insurance company will only take a pre-authorization over the phone (their new policy is what they said), so it's basically now become my job to facilitate communication between the two, and I'm pretty much sick of it and wanted to see if there were any alternatives.

Rather than look for a new drug plan, I'd look for a new doctor. If your doctor isn't willing to do what needs to be done in order for your Rx coverage to pay for your drugs, you need to find someone who will. I work for a drug card carrier. I know that MOST require pre-auth for many drugs. You're not going to get away from this by changing prescription drug plans... which really isn't even possible, if your current drug plan is part of your medical coverage.
