Question

What is a rate of inflation?

I have a project and I have to figure out the rate of inflation. Here is exactly what my paper says: What has been the rate of inflation in the US from 2001-2007? (find the stats on-line and internally cite). I don't understand how to find that. Also, can you help me how to find the % increase or decrease on a house. For my houses in my neighborhood, the price was $329,000 in 2001 and now it is $559,000. Would I divide 2001/2009 and then x by 100? I really don't know. Thanks a bunch and I really appreciate it :)

For the first one, do a Google search for 'US inflation rates' and you'll find sites that will have graphs and data tables showing that info. ---------------------------- For the second one, it's ( $559,000 / $329,000 ) = 1.699 The house's price has increased by 69.9% (basically 70%).
