Can assets from a private corporation be sold to the owners below cost (ie 1 dollar)?
Question
Life and work balance in working for the big 4 accounting firms?
I'm hoping to get into one of the big 4 accounting firms but I heard that in public accounting you could be working up to 70 hours a week during the busy season. I don't mind working hard but 60-70 hours are just too much for me as I want to have a social life and personal time too and not be a slave to the organization. Could anyone who works for or has heard about the working life at the big 4 give me some insights on about how much personal time an average worker have working at one of these companies? Thanks. Don

Hi, I got my schedule and looks like I'll be working 12 hours a day...some days you can work as much as 14 hours a day. There are days you are not assigned (you can study the CPA), and there are days you will work little as 8 hours a day. You'll get plenty of vacation days. The scheduler will also try to balance out the hours so you're not always working the 14 hour shifts. If you later want to switch to flex time, you can work part-time.

You have heard correctly. I have been working for public accounting firms since 1987. You definitely need to work a lot of overtime during busy season. Where I work, there are several busy seasons throughout the year--February thru April, August through October, and then again mid-November & December. The companies pay very good and the benefits are excellent. It is also a stepping off point to getting position in private companies' accounting departments.
