Question
How do I put my rent into escrow?
I am renting a home in Pittsburgh, PA. The house has a leaky roof that is causing lots of mold to grow all over the ceilings and walls. It is causing such damage that I think it is a health hazard. We also have many other problems with animals, electrical outlets, and other repairs that need to be done. We have complained endlessly without response. We are tired of giving our money to a slumlord ad living in such horrible conditions. We want to put our rent into escrow to put pressure on our landlord to fix these issues. How do we do this and who do we need to contact?

You have to get permission of the court to go that route. If there is mold all over the walls and ceilings, my advice for a faster remedy is to call code enforcement and the health department. If they determine that the place is unfit for human inhabitants they will condemn the property which will legally break your lease.

Just put the money away in a savings account that will draw interest(for yourself , of course) OR tell the slum you are going to start doing these repairs with the rent money and charging him for labor as well. I would just move with the rent money you have for him. No judge would blame you...if you have documentation.
