Security cameras
i have five stores that all need security cameras, what is my best/cheapest option?
Question
what are the laws within the UK regarding filming store managers/employees ?
i wish to catch a senior at a store messing customers about, like he did to me. its been over 2 years since I was hard done by his antics, now I'm sending a mate of mine into that store with an identical complaint and I want to see how the manager behaves/deals with the customer. I want to catch his antics on cam. end of. if he gets security, shopfloor staff to 'grab my camera' from me - then hes made the first violation (nobody is allowed to grab your camera from you). should he do that, a pinhole camera on a button on my friends jacket will catch that moment as well as all the rest. A backup plan. the other backup plan is a 3rd pinhole camera hidden anywhere around the body where it can fit , so if anyone thinks they can suss out where it is - hah. Is this perfectly legal ? or is it breaking the law ? somebody told me there is no need to do this since the store deploys CCTV, but surely the manager could authorise tampering of CCTV tapes so theres no footage of him acting aggressively/patheticaly ? what are the laws within the UK regarding filming store managers/employees ?

More ppl should adopt this strategy against immoral stubborn so called 'store managers'. only then, could they brought to light in terms of their bullish, unprofessional way of dealing with customers. I Strongly disagree with the first answer, the person seems clueless as to the rights we have. You are by law, allowed to film what ever you like in public - including people, providing your actions don't cause 'harrasment' of some sort. if the store manager could prove he got 'harrassed' whilst filmed (but chances are he'll be showing his true colours in the footage, and anything but harrassment being suffered will be showed on his part) then you lose. however be clear, that this means 'public spots' , like a mall, a park etc. is a store 'a public spot' ? debatable. theres not much one can do if they're caught on camera being an a5sh0le really, and given that we live in a digital age where everything and anything can be found on the internet, i say go for it. I'd do exactly the same thing as you would in this case - but only if i felt it was warranted. there are alternatives to dealing with his unproffesionalism, and they include reporting him to head office or something. my guess is, hes only human and he's no more an a5shole than the man across the street or the idiot bumper-2-bumper behind your vehicle. if we can't film abuse of authority/power in public spots/places, then what can we film ? ducks in lakes ? the woman who answered this question at the start is a little clueless with the times we live in i feel, somewhat deluded too.

Legally you could get done for filming people without their permission and in court it could be also seen as a set up. You really have no right to do this, if you have a problem you should take it to the head of security or the store manager if they have cctv as they could home in on things.. Your not a store detective and you have no rights either.. If you think the manager of the store would tamper with the evidence then go to the head office to complain.

Most of the laws do not apply sadly, since you are in their store, you are on private property and they have the right to ask you to stop filming and eject you from the premises, but NOT to take your camera, tape or memory card. They might have a right to ask you to blank it, since you filmed them on private property and without permission beforehand. That is where the problem will arise - Say you get this film, what can you do with it? It is not admissible in court, and putting it on YouTube, etc. might leave you open to prosecution. I've had rough service from some companies too and so I hope you can nail the pillocks - I just don't want them to have the satisfaction of hauling you in front of a court and getting compensation from you for damages as well - Be careful & Good luck!

Legally, you coul get done for fiming without permission, ~ but if you were to have a CCTV camera in yor store for Security reasons then you would have no problems, your staff know its there and you hav theright to survey your business i hope this helps. Also your setting him up... why dont you just watch him closley on the camera's to see how he acts about customers. and lock the recording device up so he cannot "tamper" with your evidence!
