Fort Worth
Question
If I don't have a lease, how much notice do I have to give the leasing company before I move out?
I live in Fort Worth Tx in a lease house that is not properly maintained by the leasing company. It is so bad they do not ever return my phone calls. The lease was up in May and they have never bothered to send us a new one. We have tried to call so many times to no avail, we give up. I don't want to give them any reason to withhold my deposit or place a judgement on me.

According to TX state law, you must give a 30 day notice unless your expired lease requires more. Your notice must coincide with the rental period. Meaning if you pay rent on the 1st, notice must be given prior to the 1st and rent paid for the full following month. Example: Say you want to move out November 1st. Notice must be give prior to October 1st. If you give notice today...you are still responsible for the full month of October. Also....any notice to the landlord MUST be in writing.

30 days or maybe a full month For example if you rent month to month, starting on the fist of the month -- then you may need to give 30 days notice, and you may not be able to pro-rate your last month.

Depends on state law- usually it's 30 days. Your notice to vacate must be delivered IN WRITING, not by phone. Send it certified mail so you have proof.

30 days. send certified and on the last day, stay for an exit-walk through. [next time a prop is not maintained properly, follow the 30 days notice to the LL, pay for repair and deduct from the next mo rent.]
