Question

My website isn't being indexed on any search engine...what am I doing wrong?

I have been through all the google webmaster tools, adding a sitemap and checking the guidelines. I have also added metatags to hopefully get the crawlers running through my site, but no luck. I realise my website isn't likely to rank that high (currently), and I don't expect it to considering its pages aren't all fully linked up. However I do expect the website to atleast appear on the index. The webpage is www.yvnl.co.uk and right now is mainly flash. From what I have read however this shouldn't effect indexing as google (and I am guessing other major search engines) is capable of crawling through these. Any help is much appreciated! I realise having a flash site is working against me, however I am not looking for answers telling me to choose an alternate route. I have seen many flash sites that are indexed fine and rank 1st when searched for...I'm sure there are ways of indexing my site while keeping its current form.

Write a review of your site and submit it to Shvoong.com. It's free. That's what I did without submitting my site to search engines. The next day I got #1 on page 1 of Google for a low competition keyword (4960 sites). Also do a lot of article marketing. If your article get picked up by Google at EzineArticles.com, all the other search engines will follow.

I think it may be because the site design is 'ALL' flash, which is essentially a 'movie' with the content / words being images in a movie and the only 'text / words' that are 'visible' to the search engines is in the format of 'met tags' - essentially to a search engine this is like a web page with NO content. Imagine yourself as a search engine that needs to 'read' text from the source code of the website pages. Your source code is mostly like this: =========================== versionStr = GetSwfVer(); if (versionStr == -1 ) { return false; } else if (versionStr != 0) { if(isIE && isWin && !isOpera) { // Given "WIN 2,0,0,11" tempArray = versionStr.split(" "); // ["WIN", "2,0,0,11"] tempString = tempArray[1];// "2,0,0,11" versionArray = tempString.split(",");// ['2', '0', '0', '11'] } else { versionArray = versionStr.split("."); } var versionMajor = versionArray[0]; var versionMinor = versionArray[1]; var versionRevision = versionArray[2]; // is the major.revision >= requested major.revision AND the minor version >= requested minor ================ Now can you tell me what your website is about???? Now take a look at this webpage from www.choicex.com www ... Again imagine yourself as a search engine, look at the 'source code' for this webpage..... You WILL be able to see / read what the webpage is about + so will the search engine ========== <h2> Finance </h2> <h3>Keyword Links</h3> <div id="l10" class="linklisting"> <h4 class="linktitle"> <a href="www ... Finance</a> <span class="new-item"><span>new</span></span> </h4> <p class="linkrating"> </p> <div class="linkdescription">ACF Car Finance operates a network of used car dealerships, and arranges the finance.</div> <p class="linkactions"> </p> </div> <div id="l16" class="linklisting"> <h4 class="linktitle"> <a href="www ... Saunders</a> <span class="new-item"><span>new</span></span> </h4> <p class="linkrating"> </p> <div class="linkdescription">Financial consultants offering a range of services including: debt management, debt consolidation and IVAs.</div> <p class="linkactions"> </p> </div> <div id="l57" class="linklisting"> <h4 class="linktitle"> <a href="www ... <span class="new-item"><span>new</span></span> </h4> <p class="linkrating"> </p> <div class="linkdescription">Make an informed choice about your mortgage using our mortgage calculators, mortgage search engine, guides and directory. Or contact FSA regulated mortgage advisers and brokers for personal advice about your mortgage options.</div> <p class="linkactions"> ================== Search engines like content that they can 'read' this is usually text / words' that is visible on the page and within the source code of the page. My suggestion would be to create a set of html pages that have content that is readable by search engines and have these linked as 'none flash' pages so that search engines + web users can view your website content in a 'non flash' format. I hope this helps.
