Question

Can you name a diet, the Yahoo Diet, or The Google diet?

Not sure what the law is for that in terms of trademark?

Interesting. I know that a title can't be copyrighted, but this would be kind of the reverse of that. As far as Yahoo goes, that word was in the public domain long ago, so you may be OK with it.

No. Both Yahoo! and Google are trademarks. Yes, both words have other meanings and have been in the vocabulary, but they are trademarked and to call something the Yahoo Diet or Google Diet would lead people to think they might have something to do with either Yahoo or Google, therefore infringe on the marque.

what are you going to do with your diet....are you trying to launch a business and sell books or something? if you are trying to make money off the Yahoo Diet or the google diet, that company's lawyers will go to court and shut you down, and they will win. they might even seek civil damages from you--do you have a few hundred thousand bucks lying around to pay a judgment? they will win because, even though Yahoo and Google don't sell diet books, a reasonable person might be confused enough to think your diet was in fact a product of the company named.
