can a company do this?

My husband Had open heart surgery (triple bypass) on June 19 2009. First the company he worked for automatically stopped his guarantee 40 hr check but told us they would hold his position there. When he had his Dr. appt and spoke to the company after that and told them he will be release on Sept 8 2009. Four days later they called us and told us he was terminated and our ins. was canceled! They put his last day worked was June 20 2009 his surgery was June 19 2009. We have 4 kids and we are about to loose everything! My husband is an outstanding employee and didn't deserve this! Can a company do this? just to let yall know the company WAS aware of my husbands heart condition before they hired him in October 2008

Get a lawyer. Someone who's familiar with Labor law. I think that the company must offer you COBRA insurance. Keep all the documentation about the dates and who knew what. Good Luck
