Question
How do I get rid of telemarketing phone calls at my business?
I run a Dr's office. And all day long, I get various telemarketing calls, for crap they are selling or janitorial services or whatever else B.S, they are selling. These are people or services that I have never inquired about in any way. I have to run out of a patient room, meetings, important things, to answer the call, just to find out its a telemarketer. I feel like telling them to go F*** themselves. I know there is a Do Not Call list for home/personal phone#, but what can I do about the business calls? I have repeatedly told them that I am not interested and to not call me anymore, but they get an attitude and will continue to keep calling even more. They call from blocked/restricted phone#. How do I report them for harrasmant if there is no phone#. Any ideas on how to handle these telemarketing calls?

Unfortunately, the Do Not Call list is only for personal phone numbers. The telemarketing industry didn't want to allow it at all, and got some exemptions put into the bill which allows them to call businesses, and exemptions for charities, surveys, and political groups to retain the ability to make calls even to people who are on the DNC list. I think that your only realistic remedy would be to change your phone service to one that automatically blocks any calls that have blocked the phone numbers. There are some services that use spoofed phone numbers, so these would still get through, but at least most of them would never even be able to cause your phone to ring. Until you can sign up for this service, just gently lay the phone down for a few minutes, and let the telemarketer ramble on while you catch up on the filing. I used to leave the phone off the hook for an hour or so, as the marketers used to try to call right back, but I understand that you can't do that in the medical practice, you have people who really need your services trying to call. Telemarketers are lower than pond scum in the grand order of things. Don't worry about being polite to them. They will say that they're only doing a job, but I feel that a two-dollar crack whore is also doing a job, and provides more in the way of social services than telemarketers.

I worked in an office about 3 months ago and was really ticked off when they called because I was always super busy typing up a report, looking something up etc. Anyways what I did was when they Called, I would Say "Hello. You have reached Burger King's Answering service. May I take your Order?" And for some reason, they would Always hang up. It might not work because after a while they realized it was a joke to get them to hang up. So It might not work.
