Question
Spending Category on American Express Corporate Card?
Anyone know what the spending categories of "Retail Establishments" and "Total Spending" mean? I have less than stellar credit which is why I have a cap of total spending at $5k (with $500 for retail establishments). In a few weeks I'll be traveling abroad for business and will need to pay for my hotel of a 3 week stay with the corporate card. Will the hotel be considered a retail establishment? The cost of a 3 week stay will most likely be roughly $5k. So if it is considered a retail establishment, I will not be able to pay for it with my card. If it isn't, it'll just mean I won't be able to use it for meals. Any answer is appreciated. Thanks!

Hmmm. I would have thought that a "retail establishment" would be a store. However, one legal definition that I found on the Web says a retail establishment is a place where spirits are sold: "Retail establishment. Any premises where distilled spirits, wine or malt beverages are sold or offered for sale to consumers, whether for consumption on or off the premises where sold." You're probably better off contacting American Express directly and asking them what *their* definition of the term is.
