What damage will be done to a company's targeting and positioning efforts if markets are incorrectly, ineffectively or insightfully segmented? Thanks!

You need to give a lot more detail or a specific example. If your target is 18-34, and you misidentify it as 25-34, your advertising purchases and your message will be less effective, but it will not be a disaster. If your target really teenagers, but you decide to target grandparents instead, your advertising will be nearly useless. And trust me, this has happened.

If you target and position your company wrongly, you might plan for advertising and product development wrongly to match the customer that wants to buy the product.
