move to Kansas City
Question
Do you know of any legal resources for condo renters in Kansas City?
I'm a condo renter in Kansas City, MO and our HOA board is fining us for things we did not break and overall treating us unfairly. They have sent emails degrading our character to members of the community as well. I'm afraid that my landlord will refuse to resign my lease due to this and I will be forced to move. What legal rights do I have? Where can I find legal resources?

Look up the legal definitions of "Slander" and "libel" Regardless of your rental situation, its illegal to spread lies about someone to discredit them or harm their reputation. This would be your best legal recourse. However keep in mind that you will need proof of who has said what, and proof that those statements are lies. If they're trying to charge you for damages you did not cause, then demand proof and refuse to pay until they show some proof. If they threaten to sue you, gently remind them that the judge will also expect to see proof before issuing a judgment.
