What can I do? How long is this going to take?

4 months ago now i was involved in an accident where somebody drove into the back of my car. The car was then a write off but I could still drive it. I phoned my insurance company and told them right away, they then passed me onto a accident helphire group that i was told would deal with it for me. After I told them the car was a write off they told me there was nothing they could do as the car was still drivable, and that I should contact my insurance provider again. I did this and they told me they would get in contact with the other insurance company (Norwich Union) and I should wait for a phone call from them. I have been phoning my insurance company nearly every week trying to get some answers as to whats going on and every time they told me to wait for the other company to call. Yesterday I received a phone call from another lady at my insurance company that has told me that they won't do anything and its up to the helphire thing to help me with the claim- the company that I told my insurance months ago they wouldn't help me! My car has now broken down and is completely undrivable as a result from the damage that was caused when I was first hit. I am a student at college and have had to take the weekend off work and I desperately need a car! Where do I stand on this? How long is it likely to take??
