Question

Should I buy this house?

My husband and I are about to have the inspection done on a house we are wanting to buy. It was built in the 1950s. We went over the previous inspection that was done a few months ago and they fixed several issues. They had to put a new roof on and replace plumbing under one of the bathroom sinks. But we are worried about the electrical work. It has one of the old plug boxes in the closet and all the outlets have 2 holes. How much would it cost to fix that? I don't want to move in and it go out. Also it said there was not enough water pressure. How would we go about fixing that and how much would it cost? Also it said they found small amounts of rat feces on the edge of the house!!! We are going at lunch today to meet with the inspector and have it inspected again. What questions should I ask? Any help is appreciated. This will be our first house.

The electrical ? Many states require that be done Before the sale as fuse boxes are code violations in many states . ( not all , some states are kind of backwards ) Actually , some of the old knob & tube wiring is better than the new stuff but the issue with fuse boxes is that toooooo many people are soooo retarded , they put larger fuses in than the wire can handle , then the house burns down . Circuit breakers require more skill but the retarded can still manage to illegally 'up-size' the breakers . The seller of my place had , and the lenders required correction before selling . In order to upgrade to grounded ( 3 wire outlets ) additional wiring would have to be pulled through out the home and outlets replaced . Cost would depend on how large the place was but in any event , it will be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ . Ask the inspector the very specific questions about the electrical and code violations for a fuse box etc . good luck Oh, just saw 'rat' , exterminators are good at that . Water , LOW pressure ?, if the supply water pressure is low , You are mostly screwed , Ruuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnn . > >

You should buy the house if: The cost of the house, as it is, is quite a bit less than what someone else will pay for it, as it is, today. Or: If the cost of the house including the cost of repairs/updates is quite a bit less then what someone else will pay for it after you repair/update it. Or: If you love the house based on your own value system and you can easily afford it.
