Question

Can I submit my site to multiple directories at the same time? Won't the site be banned by Google in search?

I want to make some SEO for my site and the reason of asking is that I have found information in one article, where it is advised not to submit to many directories at the same time, as this can be recognized by search engines as spam, made by software, when the site is added to too many categories. The article advised to spread article submission by several months. What will you advice.

You can submit to multiple directories at the same time without being penalized by Google. 1). Most directories take a few days, to a few weeks, to sometimes a few months, to approve your submission, so they will NOT all show up at the same time. 2). As for your concern about this being seen as spam by the search engines... the article you read is pure hogwash! If this were true, you could submit your competitors' websites to hundreds, or thousands, of crap directories on the same day and get them banned in the search engines. Do you know how many millions of website owners would do this to each other if what was said in the article you read was true? Do you know what a mess search engine rankings would be if anyone could do this to anybody's website? Lesson: Don't believe everything you read in an article by an anonymous author with no credibility in the SEO field. As for me, I do professional SEO for clients across the country everyday, so I know what works and what doesn't work.

I can imagine search engines thinking about your link somewhere in a directory as link exchange and therefore not really increasing your rank when such a link is found, however, I don't see a reason why would they penalize you for having a link to your website somewhere. Perhaps if the directory has a low PageRank, Google might store that information and lower your PageRank in time but I wouldn't really care too much about this. One of the hard part of the off-site SEO is that you can't really control which pages link to you. So my advice would be to submit only to directories relevant to you (local directories or directories with PageRank of 3 and more - use this link to check: www ...

I think it's all about quality and not quantity, so it's better to submit your website to 10-20 article directories with high PR and traffic than to submit it to 1000 directories with no page rank and traffic
