Question

How do I quit from Walmart?

A few days after I turned 18 I began working at Walmart. Before that I was working with my mom in a fruit packing house and I would dump heavy boxes onto the conveyor belt. I grew really tired of this job because it was very strenuous and repetitive. So I decided to work at Walmart. The only reason why I decided to work this summer was because I wanted to save up my money to spend while I was at college. I will be going to the University of San Francisco this coming fall. I will be leaving on the 22nd of August. So..I attended their orientation and, suprisingly, they failed to show us how to quit. This is the first job that I have ever done (officially) so I wouldn't know how to do it. I had two interviews for this job and I didn't tell them of my future plans because I knew that they wouldn't hire me if they knew that I would be leaving in less than 3 months. So, do I need to fill out some papers or something and how soon should I let them know that I'll be leaving? Do you think that they'll want to hire me next year as well? Thanks. Orientation was around 3 or 4 days long and 8 hrs every day. That's why it surprises me. So I just go up to them and say that I'll be leaving? Doing that will make me feel like a scolded dog with its tail between its legs. But...oh well.

You should give your notice to quit, in writing, at least 2 weeks in advance to your manager. They will appreciate the notice and will be more likely to re-hire you.

You go to your boss with a brief letter of resignation stating that you must leave to attennd school and would love the opportunity to return next year. Why does it surprise you that they did not teach you how to quit???? Why would an employer explain a quitting process to brand new employees?

For starters, if possible, do not quit, but reduce your hours to part time during school, and do homework, or study on any breaks that you may get. DO NOT party all night. but rest you must. for the well rested can't help but succeed.
