Question

How to deal with rude ppl when your in customer service?

I can't get my head around why ppl who call into a business think they can be so rude. They dont stop to think there are human beings on the other end of the phone trying to help. Sometimes all you have to say is hello and they are jumping down your neck! Some say dont take it personal, but how can you not when they attack you or speak down to you like your a idiot when they called into the company. Do they not have a life? Do they not have anything better to do than can into just to cause problems? Really is sad, and what is even sadder is when I hear a mature women call in and act like a child herself thinking she has the better end, but doesn't realize everything she says is recorded and written down. Now who is the idiot?

They're just angry and venting, they don't consider you to be a real person. My method with that is to start talking really slowly and quietly, so they have to lower their voices to hear me. If you stay very calm, most reasonable people will check their own attitudes, but some are just plain hateful. Comes with the territory, unfortunately. Just be glad you're not one of them, and remember that when you call customer service for something!

Just keep agreeing with them - it is difficult to argue if the person will not argue back. Sympathy and understanding are what most irate people want. Ask what can you do to please them? When they tell you, say either "I can do that" or " I am not authorized to do that, but I can - - - - -(tell what you can do)

Where I work, I answer phones throughout the day but probably not as often as you since I am in retail. But whenever a customer calls and they jump down my throat, I put them on hold and don't help them immediately. If you're able to, you can tell the customer that you are dealing with another client at the moment and will be right with them and then put them on hold and take your time. That'll give you a chance to breath and it's a little "pay back" for starting the conversation so rudely with you. Hope this helps!
