Question
How to I calculate starting costs for my small business?
I've decided my major this week, busniess with a focus in entrepreneurship. I've known for a while that I want to be my own boss, and I've decided that I want to open a head shop. It's something I am passionate about, so please don't insult me by assuming this is some pipe dream fantasy. I have been reseraching online since, and the information is confusing. Is there like a guide that tells you specifically where you need to go to get permits, licenses, etc.? I mean, how am I supposed to know what legal matters go with this, I'm not a lawyer?!?! Also, I want help calculating my start up costs. Purchasing a location, keeping it running, supplies, furniture, decor, inventory, etc... Please help!!

Contact your local small business development center, usually at a local community college, a CPA, and a business lawyer.Go to your state website, secretary of state website, and your small business administration website. These sites and contacts will give you all you need to file all of the appropriate documents for your business. Also,go to the IRS site to look over tax implications to your business. You should also look up and bookmark your county and city websites. The info. can be a bit much, but try to learn all you can about the business you're wanting to start.

Make a list of everything you need. Go to your local suppliers and see what they charge. You should go to your city or county to find out what permits they require. It varies.
