selling on eBay
Question
Ebay buyer refuses to pay customs fees and tries to return itme?
I sold an auction on june 17 and shipped it the 18th and it just hit international customs in mexico. Now the buyer is refusing to pay customs fees and is trying to ship back the item. But I do not accept refunds or returns. So what do I do if the buyer sends me back the item and the 21 day paypal time is up for a dispute. I mean he still paid and I will get his money after the 21 day hold is up but whyat do I do? I am not resending back the package and wasting more of my hard earned money just b/c the buyer doesn't want to pay customs fees. So do I just recieve the item and keep the money? I mean it doesn't seem fair but I think that's the only other options. I mean even if I resend the item he will not accept it and I do not accept returns. Hey second repsonse, read up on ebays website it says buyers are responsible for paying customs taxes not the seller. The only way the buyer can reship it is he/she has it in their hands then technically they recieved the item and then I would have proof that they recieved they item b/c they returned the item. By me saying I do not accept returns and the buyer having recieved the item and me not being responsible for customs taxes then technically they are just gifting me the package for free. Right? the 21 days is from paypal, that is before they release my funds. And the gify part of what I was saying is since tehy already recieved my item it would technically be their's and they would be just sending it to me as a gift sinc eI would have technically sold it to them. Since paym, ent received item delivered. Ah now I know what you mean, yah if I would have put a lower amount for him then, I would be in trouble by usps. duh i just mis-read your answer, So far your the best answer #3 keep it up guys.

Hi, The buyer needs to fulfill their obligation, if they open a dispute what will they claim? that they refused customs? I can't see paypal siding with them, BTW they have 45 days not 21 to open a dispute/claim. Keep your tracking, d/c info & anything by usps that proves item was refused then print it out & fax to paypal if necessary. If you were to put gift or a lower declared value on the customs form then you'll be in a lot of trouble with the usps. Stick to your guns on this one.

tell him if he wants it he has to pay customs and your fee to reship it and a handling fee for your trouble. he needs to send it paypal and when you get it you can reship. If he will not pay the extra costs you can keep the money.

You will have to refund the money should the item be returned to you - less postage costs. If you dont refund it, the buyer can open an item not received dispute on paypal (assuming thats how they paid) You are better off refunding them without paypal becoming involved (they will find in favour of the buyer ) Doesnt matter that you dont accept returns, the buyer doesnt have what they paid for. edit - James, I know buyers are responsible for paying customs fees but the buyer doesnt have the item, so technically you should refund him the item price less the shipping fee. paypal WILL find in favour of the buyer.
