Applied to work at macy's and had to fill out a tax request?

I didn't really pay attention to the tax request and so i clicked the section where i could skip it, but it required my ssn and name. am i ok? the site was legit i'm sure b/c it was on the macy's website. i am not being scammed here, am i?

Most companies want your ssn so they can run a background check. They would also need your ssn for tax information but most the time this is given after your hired not before. Depending on what state you can legally say no but most the time that means you dont get the job :) Over all your ssn and name aren't really that private, people can't do much with them. You didn't give them a bank account number or a cc number right?
