Question
what are my chances of getting a credit card?
ill soon be 18 years of age and applying for a credit card i was thinking of getting either a visa card or American express blue savings card, but to the point i have a part time job that ive had for two years plus a savings acount with 2k+ i usually keep a small amount of cash in the primary account and i have zero debt of any kind. i was wondering what my chances of getting a card would be? and if that's not a good idea what would be the responsible thing for a person of my age to do?

In the current economic scenario, it is very tough to get a good credit card without credit history. Here are some ways to establish your credit history: 1)Take out a small loan using the savings account as collateral, and then pay it back. This will help you for establishing your credit history. 2)Apply for a secured credit card. Using a secured credit card is an easy way to build your credit rating. Pay your credit card balances on time. After a few months of having the secured credit card, apply for an unsecured card.

When I was your age, I had luck with the local department store chain, they gave small credit line to most kids with no bad credit. I kept trying for a Visa but even a year later could not get one. I finally found a bank that agreed to let my dad cosign for 1 year and if I wasn't late he would be removed from the account. I wasn't and they told me he was. Visa & Amex are usually much harder to get than a local store card. Since you savings you might look into a secured card but most of them are rather expensive. Perhaps because they know it builds ones credit better than other things ?
