Tell them you didnt purchase the item on the list. Make sure they issue a NEW number/ account number. Sometimes companies make you pay a 50 dollar fee, etc and then they cover the rest. Call and ask why they are trying to get you to pay for a fraudulent charge. Dont pay it. tell them you will pay a stolen fee but not the charge that you did not make because you would be admitting guilt then. And as another advised I agree, make a police report with your town's police station.

I know of no credit card companies that make you pay for unauthorized charges. Unless you have some bad fine print, if they excused some, they should excuse all. Keep disputing, buy time, talk to managers, TAKE NOTES OF ALL CALLS. Consumers are dead in the water without a paper trail. If you go to an atty. with this problem, hands in the air, you WILL pay more in stress and money than worth. Keep fighting the credit issuer AND look into ID theft protection.

Be sure to keep copies of all the paperwork with the credit card company concerning the fraudulent charges. If the merchant that was backcharged is now trying to collect from you, send them a letter indicating that the credit card was stolen and the charge was fraudulent. You owe them nothing.
