Question
Why doesn't my USPS mail carrier deliver all of my mail?
I keep getting calls from various companies and the city saying that my mail has been returned to them as "undeliverable." With the mail carrier stating reasons such as "no person at this address," "incorrect address," and the plain old "return to sender" with no reason what so ever. I moved into my building approximately three months ago and the problem has been going on since I moved in. I live in an upscale 12 unit apartment with a row of mailboxes just inside the front door, about a week before I moved in I added my name to the card at the back of my box, as per USPS instructions. My box is clearly labeled with my unit number and I updated my address with every last company and business that has ever sent me anything in the mail along with a forwarding address from my last home. The strange this is that somedays I will get mail from a certain company, with no problems, but others it gets returned. After four failed attempts from the city, I was asked to come in and pick up my mail. The address is always correct, no misspellings. Why is this happening!? I have filed three separate complaints with USPS and they say they have looked into the matter but nothing ever happens. My second problem that I have just recently been having with USPS: my mailman won't take my outgoing mail. He will leave it in the box for weeks while everyone else's goes out fine. I've tried putting it in the designated outbox as well as my own personal box, and yet it sits. I'm completely fed up. I've triple checked the addresses I have sent out, and the mail that actually gets delivered and they all match up. I've even had friends and family check but nothing is out of order. Help! I am in the US, Portland, OR.

Contact the postmaster of the postal office that serves your area or file a complaint with the Postal office for failure to provide proper mailing , Every state has a Attorney General , They will hear your complaint that is if your within inside the U.S.

Go to www.usps.com, on the top bar, far left, is 'FIND A ZIP CODE'. Enter all your address information, and see if the 9 digit ZIP they return matches the one you've been giving people. If you are not using a 9 digit ZIP it might be that your address is misread by keycoders -- they add the 'bar-code' address that the Postal machines read. Your carrier doesn't sort mail anymore, it comes sorted. If you are not using 9 digit start using it. Typically in an apartment you will get better delivery from the regular carrier than from a 'sub'. The outgoing mail problem sounds weird. You should just use the designated outgoing box. Maybe you pissed off your regular carrier by filing 3 complaints on them.
