I hope that the health insurance companies in our country can find new leadership that is not corrupt and actually care about the people who they cover. There is too much power in the hands of these large insurance companies, and too much is at state for them to continue on as they have been. Our citizens have such poor health compared to other nation in our similar economic situation, it is embarrassing and tragic. Hopefully more people will support health care reform and we can get out people healthy once again.

Oh, the rotten ones WILL go out of business, as long as capitalism works, until/unless politicians "bail them out" ala AIG and GM. The good ones will stay in business, as long as the government allows privately owned businesses. They don't vote in the politicians, though - you do.

If we go to a national health care plan, like Canada or the UK, everyone has to realize that it is not free. You and your employer will have to pay premiums just like we pay Social Security and Medicare now. The government will have the final say on what treatments we get (rationed health care). In the UK it takes six months for a woman with breast cancer to get treatment; in the US it's two months. If there's no profit motivation in medicine, the best qualified people will not become or remain doctors. Right now, private pay people are compensating for Medicare/Medicaid patients (the government pays substantially less than everyone else) and illegal immigrants, who are bankrupting hospitals in border states. All patients are paying for the malpractice premiums which are necessitated by unlimited liability. In my state, there are whole counties which don't have an OB/GYN because of liability considerations.
