Depending on your county, you may be able to do this online or have to go to the office in person. I live in Ohio and all of our county records are in an online database that is open to everyone. Off hand, I believe that our's goes back about 70 years. Your county may differ. You just need to check with your county auditor or county recorder. The auditor will have tax information, transfer history, and building sketches. The recorder will have a history of mortgages, transfers, and liens. Either one will be able to give you information on the chain of title.

Yes. You can contact a title company. They can perform an abstract of title history going back many decades, if you like. That will tell you the chain of ownership. You can also ask a private investigator to perform a history search on the address to see what names are linked to the address.

You can find out who OWNED the property in the past ten years. Whether or not the owners lived there is another story. Simply check the deed history at the local register of deeds or land office in San Antonio.
