Your first port of call is to contact the administration for student loans and request an explanation as to why they are on your credit report. I'm not familiar with the term "government claim" so it's difficult for me to say. If this is simply an entry on your credit report showing you have applied for a student loan, then you cannot have it removed. If however the entry suggests that you are in default of the loan agreement, then contact the student loan administration to find out why. If you are up to date and there is an error then the student loan admin should be able to correct your credit report by removing any default details. If in fact you were in default at sometime but are now up to date, in my country a default will remain on your report for seven years and cannot be removed. Good luck

So you're seeing, "Gov't claim filed for $xxx of insured amount...", etc? That's a sign of default on a student loan where the lender filed a claim for compensation with the loan's guarantor (ask me why I know that!!!). First thing you should do is register with the National Student Loan Database (www ... hit the "review" button). This is the Dept of Education's listing of all your loans and will show you the DOE's records on them. If there's any bad activity, you'll see it here. You said you consolidated. Were you ever in default to the original lenders? Was the consolidation just to lower the payment and not as a result of being past due? The reason I ask is that if you default and then consolidate or do a rehabilitation program, the original lenders aren't obligated to change their reporting. If you've NEVER been in default at all, contact the original lenders, the current lender and also the servicer and/or guarantor on your loans. Somebody's records are messed up. If you track down a blunder in their records, you can ask them to re-report to the credit agencies the correct info. Best to do it that way because if you just dispute it with the credit agencies and the lender doesn't have the records right, they'll just confirm the same thing and the credit agency will just tell you they confirmed the info.
