If your short term disability insurance is through a group policy at work it is very likely that the definition of disability would require that you are unable to work. A more restrictive definition of disability is often found in group policies in order to keep the monthly premium low. However, your group may be different. You need to check the certificate of coverage you received when you signed up for the disability coverage. Look for the "definition of disability". It should be easy to find in the contract. If you don't have the certificate check with the HR people at work or call the agent that sold the policy to your employer. If you bought the disability policy as an individual you will have to look at the policy or call your agent because there are many ways to customize the coverage of an individual policy..

~~You will have to read the policy. Does it require you to be 100 percent disabled before you are eligible for benefits or do they cover any kind of disability? Every policy is different so you have to read yours or call and ask them. Unfortunately no one here could give you a correct answer.~~
