Question

Wanting to clean for real estate companies?

My friend and I are both military spouses and have decided we would like to start a small cleaning business, to pass some time while our husbands are deployed/TDY. To be honest, we aren't really sure how to go about this and are completely ignorant when it comes to business. It would be no problem to go and get a small business license. We would like to clean residential homes, but are really interested in cleaning real estate property. How should we go about this? Would we be required to be insured/bonded ( in NC) before they hire us? Would they contract us out? We also aren't sure what companies usually charge for real estate cleaning. Or do the real estate companies give you an offer of what they will pay you? We are hard working women and would do our best if hired, but we just need some information as to what real estate companies are looking for when hiring cleaning companies. It would just be the two of us. Any information would be helpful. I would like to have a head's up on the necessary information before contacting them. Thank you

The cleaning agency that cleans my apts. charge $20 per hour for two people. You will need to adjust your rate by trial and error until you find what makes a profit, and keeps you busy. If you are too busy, raise your rates, if you are not busy enough, lower your rates. All you need is the business license and advertise. Mail out flyer's to all the rental agencies, and Land Lords advertising apt.s for rent in the paper. If you can handle the gore, advertise with police depts. for cleanup after homicides and suicides. This specialty work goes for around $50 per hour in my city. Not required, but probably wise is a Liability Insurance policy in case a customer claims you ruined his carpet or some such.
