Question

CPAs - Financial Professional - Clients - Help...?

I am a financial professional... doing all types of insurances but mostly specialized in life, disability, education planning, long term care, retirment, estate planning, and business succession... I am just getting in Auto, home, business, health insurance... so I have this CPA who wants to work together in his office selling insurance... But as I was talking to him I never felt like he knows how to recomend people in certain financial product in order to save money on taxes for the clients.. I have a feeling that he never worked with any financial professional and don't know if I can teach him what to look for in terms of people's finances in order to referr business to me...another thing he told me was that he doesn't not solicit life insurance and if this is the case how he expects to work with me?? I want to hear what you all have to say ... and what should I do with him to help him understand what's behind financial planning... and how important it is... ??

Hi CPA is a generic financial education. By doing CPA one does not become an expert in all areas of finance. Experience coupled with CPA degree makes one better expert. Hence I do not see any impediment to join hands only because of lack of knowledge or experience. Please check whether the person is a man of integrity, confidentiality and has the aptitude and attitude to learn. Being CPA he comes to a clients financial and business risks; hence he can suggest the best insurance schemes as a matter of Value Added Service and thus solicit extra business. Yours V. Narayanan

I think you asked this before. This guy is clearly looking for ONE WAY referrals - you send business to him, he's not sending any to you. Why would you want to hitch your wagon to THAT horse?? Share offices. Not clients. Or find someone else to share your office with. But if you DO share with him, be sure to have lots and lots of posters and promo items up so that everyone who walks in to see him, KNOWS you sell insurance.

Hi There, The situation you are facing is always tricky! But I feel that it's better to talk it out wid him now rather than dragging the issue further. U Shud explain to him in detail that he might be very good in ur academics and accounts but if u'r not a strategic fit wid the organization, things aren't right. Moreover, a job is not about the good or the best people, it's about the right people!!
