How to start a modeling agency overseas?
In the country that I am inerested in, the current modeling agencies are not reputable at all. You can't even find a updated website by searching google. So, competition at this point is not a factor if I can advertise myself properly. I know I need to figure out gov't licensing and my status as a US citizen all that. I figure I will contact possible clients, create website, advertising agencies, find a few good models to start and create their comp cards, get an office etc. I know there is a lot more, but any advice you have would be great. Perhaps give me a lisst of DOs and DONTs. Professional opinions appreciated. Thanks!

Your first hurdle will be finding out if that country even allows foreign ownership of businesses. It would help a lot if you mentioned which country you were looking at. You need to contact that country's embassy in the US and speaking to their commercial department to find out the different laws involved with setting up a business - what sort of minimum investment is required, tax policies, registration fees, employment contracts, etc. Almost every country's embassy in the US has a commercial division that exists specifically for US companies who want to invest in their country.

Fact: Starting a business in another country requires obtaining local licenses as well as obtaining a local work permit (for you). This will probably cost you on the order of $10,000 / year. Fact: It takes several months to obtain the approvals, IF THEY COME AT ALL. Fact: The existing competitors in these countries WILL challenge your immigration application, and you will most likely lose. Fact: That's how the world works.
