Question
no credit and cant seem to start credit what do i do?
im 19 years old. im about to start going to school. ive tried what many people say and go to stores and things of that nature to get a credit card. all have been denied. my bank (national city) does not have a student credit card program. they said i could get a credit card with a co-signer but my parents have very bad credit and all my friends either have no or bad credit. i really need some sort of credit to get a computer for school but there is no way i can pay for it strait up. I do have a job and i could afford monthly payment and things. i could save and buy one but that would take to long when i need a computer very soon. please help im going to school but its not from a loan or anything. i work at UPS and they pay for my schooling 100 percent.

you can go to Bank of America and apply for their student stuff. they have the Upromise credit card and student checking and savings. if you don't get accepted, you can go to capitalone.com and apply for a card. before I started applying for credit cards, i already had credit from my student loans but still couldn't get approved, so i went to capital one and they sent an invitation in the mail and i was accepted

Try your local credit union, see if you can join. You can sit with a rep & see what you can do to establish credit with them. Once your set with them, you can expand. In order to get credit, you have to prove you don't need it. My parents started with a savings account for me at their credit union at age 6,added a checking account at 18. Borrowed money using my savings as a guarantee for car loans. When they started issuing credit cards I got one. That was 49 years ago. Now I have built a credit score in the upper 700's. built slowly with a good foundation, using credit wisely. Don't get into the trap of using credit cards for everything, you have to pay them off every month or the interest will eat you alive. Need a computer? Like I told my niece when she ask me to co-sign for her. Make the payments into a savings account, when you have the cash. Borrow against it & make the payments or pay cash. Nothing is wrong with paying cash, after all 50 years ago credit cards did not exist. Hard to believe but true. Good Luck

If you type in student credit cards in your search engine it will take you to a large variety of banks & companies offering student credit cards and if that doesn't work, you could apply for a secured card where you send in a certain amount of money and receive a credit card for the same amount.

Since you're employed, you might be able to get a secured credit card if you have $500 in a savings account. Most banks should be able to set it up for you. Make sure they belong to the credit bureau. I also believe Best Buy has their own financing if you want to buy a computer.
