Question

Should I pay this bill?

I have health insurance which covered my son who is in college out of state. His eyes got allergy from wearing contact Lens prescribed by his eyes doctor. He was using my insurance for all the services until recent something strange occurred. Situation is, the doctor's office claimed they filed the claim but did not get reimbursement, then, told me, they lost my son's insurance company's data...I sent another copy of my insurance card. Then, the doctor's accountant told me insurance company claimed they could not locate my son's name in my policy. I called my insurance company and got the answer:"We could not find your doctor's claim in our records." I had asked this doctor to send me a copy of their filed insurance claim or number and never got one. Last week, I received a letter from a collection agent intends to collect the $23 from my son, his name is used on the letter, not mine. $23 is not much, but why should I pay $6000+/per year health insurance premium and still have to deal with this nonsense? I could not justify who, doctor or insurance company, told me the true story. So, how should I handle this, in your opinion?

I had this happen once and I did some investigating and found this particular medical office was so poorly managed they were several years behind in filing claims. When they found mine, I no longer had that same insurance ( which would have paid 100%) . They tried to collect from me, but I told the office manager that I was not responsible for them not being capable of doing their job and would not pay. Never heard from them again.

call the billing person at the dr office and go through everything with them. it'll take a while is it worth $23? depends on your patience & freetime

Just pay it and move on with your life. Or spend hours and hours and hours and hours and hours, dealing with it. Its not worth your time or your credit. Justify it by going to a different doctor next time.
