Question
What are the insurance implications of being a delivery driver?
I recently took a part-time job delivering subs for a restaurant in Ohio. I'm a college student trying to put money away to pay off loan debt, but my dad is concerned my insurance rate may go up as a result. Can anyone tell me how much it would affect my rate, and if it's worth the increase for a 20-hour per week job?

autoinsurance.maclenet.com - try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.

Yes it is worth the increase. There is no way to know without speaking with your insurance agent. If you do not add the proper coverage for this and have a claim while working you can and will have your claim denied for cause. Delivery use is excluded in nearly all forms of personal auto policy's. Contact your insurance agent to see if it is included (unlikely) and if not what you can do to get it added and for how much. Anon gave you a great answer man. I just need to add, if they ask for the money just give it man its not worth your life. The pizza guys here, sometimes I ask what they have been doing and if they have had problems. Its rare but it can happen.

It's probably not going to go up. A PERSONAL auto policy, has some absolute exclusions written into it, for business use. Delivery, voids coverage. If you hit someone, or someone hits you, while you're delivering, you can expect that your auto insurance won't pay a blessed cent. Not to fix the car, not to pay for your injuries, not to fix the OTHER car, and not to pay for THEIR injuries. Delivery insurance - on a commercial auto policy - is VERY expensive. It's the second most expensive insurance you can buy, only taxi insurance costs more. You could expect the rate to triple, AT LEAST.

Your personal auto policy I am almost positive will not cover you for deliveries. It is actually a question in the application. What you need is for the employer to provide coverage through a non-owner policy. They are pretty expensive so they may not have it. Either way, you have to be insured on a commercial auto policy which may be more money or get your coverage from the employer. Ask your employer, if you are not his first delivery driver then he should know.
