Business Capital
Question
How can I attrack more customers?
Now I run a small animal care business (I feed peoples pets while they are away) anyway due to the recession I am finding that business has slowed down drastically and I don't have the capital to expand my business. Does anyone have any ideas to help my try and increase my business?

Hang out at parks, walk trails , anywhere you see pet lovers and their pets.Introduce yourself while petting their pets tell them your profession and hand out Business cards while being extra loving to their pets. This might sound kinda cheesy but post fliers there too. Fliers were my #1 promoter Im in the phone book and get lots of calls because of it but when I first started out my agency I posted fliers everywhere it was allowed, and it worked very well. VERY WELL! Even in laundry mats... everywhere! it really works. Try volunteering at animal hospitals become friendly with the receptionist and their clients. If they don't need your help leave cards and tell them about yourself and how you LOVE pets. Volunteer at animal shelters do the same there. If they don't need help just keep going once a week just to get to them and they will feel obligated to help you find clients and they probably need someone to recommend their clients to, to begin with. CARDS AND FLIERS! CARDS AND FLIERS

Advertise, or in other words just spread the word that your buisiness exists. When people know about it and how reliable it is then theyll use you.

Make flyers, leave them on people's homes or apartments. Make stacks of business cards, leave them laying around pet shops and clinics. See if you can put an ad in the yellow pages. If you see people walking their dog, walk up to them and let them know of your services, and give them a business card. Good luck to you.

try and post fliers in grocery stores or a local coffee house. Ask your current customers to suggest you to their friends

You could lower your prices a little or put out advertisements in places.

Does your local television station have a website? Many have free classifieds in which you can advertise your service. Another place to advertise with simple handouts is at the veterinarian's offices around your area. Again--free. How about leaving handouts or a poster at local pet stores?

I have counseled many pet sitters, in this environment, you need to get back to basics. A go back to you existing clients and ask them when their summer vacation is. B get the word out with your friends and family, " Do you know anyone with a pet who is going on vacation?" C Offer a referral reward, $X if you refer a client, or one free day of sitting for referring a friend. D Get car signs, they are inexpensive and effective!!! If you need more let me know, good luck!!!

Give your existing customers a gift or small discount for referrals. The best advertising is word of mouth.
