You offer what you think is a reasonable price. You could offer 950K.

The fact that you have a huge family is not going to bring the cost of the home down. Really the most you can do is to offer what you can afford, and if he is interested, the owner will respond. Asking proce is just, that what the seller is asking. Sometime the asking prices are quite a bit more than what market value is. If the owner refuses to even entertain your offer, check up on the house a month or two later. The longer a house is on the market, the more deserate the seller will become if he needs to sell. If he doesn't need to sell, he may just take it off the market entirely, if he feels the home is worth more to him than what market price is.

The seller won't care if you are alone or you have a huge family, they will either accept or reject your offer. I have never met a seller that was empathetic to a situation and willing to accept a low offer in order to help someone out.
