how to terminate an employee
In Connecticut, can an employee be terminated for refusing to do a personal favor for the employer?
Question
is it unethical for employees in the same company to compare wages?
In the position I took over, the outgoing person confided what salary he was making. My boss says that was unethical and anyone caught doing so in the future will be terminated.

It isn't unethical to state a true fact about oneself. What's unethical is to threaten the termination of anyone who has a conversation that might lead to some of the staff demanding more money.

It's a conundrum. Virtually all private employers have a rule that you can't compare salaries and if you do, you can be terminated. Companies generally don't like employees to know because best case, it leads to hard feelings. That said, the US surpreme court ruled that if you *are* being discriminated against, you have to bring action within 6 months--which means you need to know the salary of the person(s) before you or who also have the same job....

Would a person going to eat dinner want to see some one get a meal for 70% less than you pay? If you would not eat in a place like that why work in a place that has such miserable conditions of not posting a common wage scale?
