if i wanted to open a clothing brand would i apply for a patent or trademark or something other than?
Im looking to open a clothing line for MMA and hve a catchy name ..how do i go about protecting it and starting the line?

You'd trademark the name. Patents are for inventions, for example, if you design a new type of clothing fastener like Velcro. Check out the site I've referenced below. It explains how trademarks protect your rights, and how they are different from patents and copyrights.
