Question
A potential landlord is running a credit check on me. I know my credit will not show up great but what things?
will be listed? (I am in Ontario if it makes any difference) Will unpaid tickets issued by police show up? Will my record of pay show up? Or will only financial offences (not police oriented) show up? Thanks

I'm not sure how different Canada is from the U.S., but a credit check only shows your financial background: credit cards, accounts in collections, student loans, etc. What the landlord is looking for is to see whether or not you're likely to pay him rent. If you have paid your credit cards on time, or only have missed a payment here or there, then you'll be okay. If he were conducting a background investigation, that would include police-related offenses.

They are really just seeing what issues you have had and how long ago and how you handled them. They may not even run it if you seem to have enough money coming in to take care of the rent. Don't sweat it until you need to, life is too short.

You can have someone cosign your lease (like a parent, etc) anyone with good credit can cosign for you. That will make them rent to you.
