Here are some step by step on how to set up a business. Step 1: Come up with you a business name & website name.. Step 2: Build a website for yourself. with prices, packages, deals & sells etc. (And some sample websites showing off what you can do.) Step 3: Go to your locale court house and get your business license.) Step 4: Open you a Business bank account. Step 5: Find the place in your area to get something copyrighted. And get your real name, business/website name and all the information like that copyrighted. Step 6: Advertise your business. I can not help you there because different Advertise works different for different businesses, budgets area etc etc.

First, have you made websites for clients yet? If not, I would network with friends and family members and friends of friends of family members (LOL) and offer to make a few websites for free or for a small amount of money, depending on how much work they need. Get yourself a portfolio of work you've done and prepare a professional "business cabinet"--letterhead, a business card, your business website, etc. Before you can go into business for yourself, you may wish to read the online profiles of others who have done the same thing. Also, network with other web designers via Yahoo! Groups and maybe craigslist. I'm a graphic designer but I've fallen way behind on current technology, so I have to go back and get more training. Research everything you can about owning your own business. This website will help you with a lot of questions/tips/advice: webdesign ... This woman teaches free web design classes through email. I tried to learn from her but I have some bad ADD, so I need some more medication before I try that again! LOL. Good luck and I hope you succeed.

Most towns these days have a group of retired business owners that are available to help new business starters get up and running. They do it for free because they love doing it. And they know everything there is to know about business, especially where the costly mistakes lie that can kill your new business. Contact your local library, city hall or community center and ask around. Use the word "entrepreneurs" and see if it lights a bulb or two. That's the way I would go. By the way, that "gfhtshe ... that the nice person suggested, is a scam to run from The 2nd thing "souravdasonline ... is someones analysis of a marketing tool. Worth reading i think.

In the web design business, an impressive portfolio is critical if you are going to stand out from the rest of your competition. If you don't have one yet, I'd recommend doing some freelance work (try finding projects on outsourcing sites like oDesk), and as you start getting projects, your portfolio will begin to grow (as will your hands on knowledge). In the meantime, the most important thing in business today is networking. Set up a profile on LinkedIn, and start making contacts. Get your name out there, join your local chamber of commerce, start meeting people, and after a while, assuming your work is good, you will start getting referrals for work. And, of course, once you have your business established, advertise. Best of luck to you!
