Why would a company interview like this and not respond to me?

I at at a loss. I am looking for insight on this situation. I interviewed a couple of weeks ago with an agency that I really wanted to work for. I came in and was held for a 2 hour meeting, then quickly I was scheduled to come in the next day for a "peer" interview. I was there for another couple of hours. I never filled out an application, they never asked me for references. I was told at the end of the interview that they need to get back to me in a couple of days. That was standard operations for them I know. Here it is two weeks later. I have emailed a thank you letter for meeting with them and have since then accepted another position. But... I am curious why I was interviewed with such zest, shown such interests, only to never be contacted again???
